Just purchased a '99 F250 PSD. Open the airbox to find this:
Is this just from the CCV backing up oil into the Air filter? Will the infamous CCV mod take care of this problem? How do I clean out the rest of the intake? How do I check the turbo?
that stuff come on the filter from the suction pipe before any engine pipes got into the flow. Check the seals on your cold air intake, since it looks like the filter is sucking the air from the engine bay.
My air filter looked like that when I changed it because I have a broken spot in my box allowing it to pull air from the engine bay. It takes a good while to get bad like that, and none of that stuff gets through the filter anyway. I just live with it as I don't have a reason to put an aftermarket intake on my truck.

No. Looks like a very dirty filter that has been neglected. Change the filter and make sure your airbox is sealed well.

No. The CCV mod is intended to keep the IC pipes and boots clean. Stock CCV system allows crankcase gases into the intercooler system where it condenses and seeps past the seal between the boots and tubes. The CCV mod trades one problem for another. The crankcase gases have to go somewhere...
Is your CCV system stock or has someone modified it? (Hopefully they didn't route it to the intake side of your air box....if so that would make for a very oily filter...)

Thanks.
Just remove both rubber intake tubes and make sure they are clean inside. Also make sure the top of your airbox lid is clean. Here is a link that will help you check your turbo...
Thanks all. There is a small, 3/8", hole in the bottom of the air box which may be letting some dirty air in. It looks like it is there to drain water that gets in. It is in the low spot. Is there really that much oil floating around the engine bay?
I do have a small oil drip that looks like it is coming from the rear main seal and pooling in, and then dropping from the flywheel/ TC inspection plate. Leaves a small spot of oil, first I thought it was tranny fluid, on the driveway each time I park.
