OK. Now I have your attention. I have posted this question twice without one response. I figured you all would respond to something exciting so I wrote a new title. Pretty catchy Huh? Anyway, I need some help with the following problem:
I have a 2000 7.3 auto 2 wheel drive dually crew cab truck with 455K on the body and 170K on the replacement engine. It has a new IDM controller, main computer, and CPS. I seem to have a percieved miss when hooked to a loaded trailer, foot off of the brake, truck creeping forward with no pedal pressure. I can "feel" each pulse of the engine as the cylinders fire. Is that normal or do I need to start looking at under valve cover harnesses, fuel injuctors,, etc? Also, truck is hard to start when cold even in warm weather. It takes two cycles of the key without waiting for the glow plugs to heat up, to get it to start if it sits more than a few days.
I live in Tn and once I have cranked my truck for the day I never wait for the glow plugs to go off I just get in and crank it up.I have had no issues to the date even in winter time. It could be your LPOP.
I would check fuel pressure post filter for the hard starting issue.
The percieved miss could be from the CPS. You might try the origional black one (if you can find one) or the IH blue one to see if that helps. Other than that you will need to do some data logging with a good scanner to diagnos further.
the long starts may be weak fuel psi. bad pump or clogged filter in tank.
Good point. The fuel pump question had crossed my mind. It is pretty dirty externally so I am guessing it too has 455K on it. How do you check fuel pump pressure?
On the LPOP question, are you thinking that the HPOP reservoir drains back to the sump and the LPOP takes a minute to fill it back up to operate the injectors after it sits a few days? I think I can check the level by removing the plug in the top of the reservoir.
Could it not be the kackle injector #8? I checked the cylinder balance with my Diablo Preditor and all of the cylinders look pretty even except for the infamous #8 plus I do not get any codes when I scan it.
I am going for 500K+ on the odometer. I need to keep her together a little longer!

I live in Louisville, KY. Same type of weather. I can go out during the summer mornings and kick mine right over without waiting on the glow plugs until just recently, even with the 455K on the truck.
yes you can take the plug out and check the level. to check fuel psi you need to put a gauge on the fuel bowl. the plugs in pic. you will need a fitting 1/8" FNPT to 1/8 npt. you can get one here Replacement O-rings for Ford Diesel Engines the high plug is pre filter low is post filter.
