I have to agree in the 4.0 liter engine, they really do have alot of power. I was out at the mud runs once and a guy out there had a bone stock late 90s Ranger STX 4x4. He was running the 4.0 engine backed by an automatic, running 31x10.50 BFG Mud Terrains. Man that little sucker would throw mud! He was plowing through mud with his front bumper, and that little 4.0 was just screamin, it definately did not lack power. I was impressed!
Funny enough, about 2 hours after I posted, I drove past an Isuzu-brand pickup and the body was exactly the same as an S-10. I guess I never noticed this change, mostly because I never had the slightest desire to buy either one
So, what I really wanted to know is, is the Isuzu truck built by Chevrolet, or is the S-10 made by Isuzu?
S10's are built so cheaply and the excessive use of GM plastics completely turns me off. Also, in my opinion, the styling is way out dated. Though I don't like the looks of any Chevy truck.

It's a badge sharing thing, just like the Mazda B series is to the Ranger..
I know it could be cursing for me to say this but I am quite fond of the 67-72 Chevrolet pickups. I am a Ford man at heart but there are a few Chevys and a couple Mopars out there that I do like and would not mind owning. I would take a Ranger over an S10 any day because they are just a better built truck. I don't think S10s deserve to be called trucks, theyr'e too flimsy!
You guys know the Duramax diesel in the Cehvy P/Us? It's an Isuzu diesel
The Powerstroke is an International I was out at a friend's ranch and his grandfather who owns it has an old tractor from the 70's with an International diesel in it. That thing has got torque, and he lit the engine on fire when he accidentally touched a battery cable to the block, and the thing still runs today.
I have seen the ZR2, and it is not a bad looking truck, but its got nothing on the FX4. The 4.0 in my moms explorer is quite peppy indeed- even with 185 k miles on it (1992 EB) My only complain is the electronic shift 4x4, and while it is far superior to the vacuume setup on the s-dime, it has failed me twice when I needed it. But that is what you get for buying a pretty boy truck. All i had to do was clean off the contacts for the position sensor on the shift motor, and it worked fine now. The only reason anyone has to buy an s-10 is to rice it out, just like everyones else with an s-dime. so their truck can be unique.... just like everybody else...
Duramax...is an Isuzu engine! Wow I had no idea, I actually thought GM pulled their heads out of their butts and built a good diesel engine. Hmmm... oh well at least it's still better than the 6.2 and 6.5 liter diesels.
Just like most of us I am a Ford man at heart but there is an old Chevy pickup I really want to buy back home (I am in Japan right now). When I was in high school I used to take care of a yard for an older couple, they had an old 1970 Chevy C10 that sat along side the garage and is hardly ever driven. It has a 350 4bbl, automatic, CST trim package, heavy duty rear leaf springs (most were coils in the rear), 12 bolt rear axle packing 4.10 gears with factory posi. Although still not a very fancy truck. I used the truck for pulling stumps and hauling leaves, brush, and other junk to the dump. Although still a Ford man that ol Chevy has kinda grown on me. I was pretty much the only one who ever drove it, last time I was home that truck was still sitting there. Maybe I can talk the old man into selling it to me, it would make a nice hot rod.
In 1993 I bought a 92 Ranger xlt with the 2.3 5 speed and my friend bought a 93 S10 sl with the 2.4 5 speed he had more horse power(rated) I could wine that Ranger up to 35 in first and only be turning only 5000 to 5500 and and 2nd up to 50 55 mph and 3rd about 70 never maxxed out fourth cause speedo only goes to 85 but it was pedded and it could take courners good but even better with those 235 60 14 bfgoodrich I had on it. only thing here in Fl I had a habit of breaking the wheels loose when driving in the rain. I hated everything about that S10 that The engine suck trans sucked the gear shifter suck chutch sucked hell you couldnt even get that truck past 15 20 in first.. My ranger was just a stock xlt and smoked him in everything....guess that why he got rid of it only after months and I keep mine for 120000 miles and only traded it in for my 1999 Expedition EB 4X4 3 months ago....If I had it to do over again I would still have that truck and bought a 98 mustang cobra but I would be it jail right now My father has A 2002 Mustang Gt plus and its toooooo tempting the plant that right foot....thinking back ...I ran that truck really hard and it keep coming back for more.....
That truck sounds similar to mine. '72 C10 Super, 350 4 bbl, heavy duty rear springs, posi, only I have 3.73 gears. I just swapped a 700R4 into it so that I can cruise down the highway at much better RPM's with the overdrive. Plus first gear is now a little lower.
