i have a 1982 f100 with a 3.8 v6.. the factory carb is messed up and i would like to replace it with an aftermarket carb that has around the same cfm of the original factory carb.. does anyone know what the cfm of the factory carburetor is?

I'd think something in the 350-450 range would be about right, but your best best is really going to be to rebuild the one you have. That way you know you're getting the right size and it's a WHOLE lot cheaper too. Rebuilding a carb is not hard at all.

I worked for Ford back then and I can't ever remember seeing a 3.8 in a truck back then...just a mind blower.

I haven't seen one either, but the '82 Ford brochure lists the V6 as standard issue on the F100. However, it doesn't show as available on anything else in the pickup line.

I agree with andym. The best thing to do would be to rebuild the carburetor you have now. Is it a 1V or 2V carburetor?

There was also a 255 V8 engine available for a year or two for the F100 in the early 1980s.

What he said x2. You have lots of guys on here, like Lariat, who can coach you through it. And, assuming it is the original carb, then you'll know it is right for your engine.

The 3.8L v6 was not a very common motor there are a few of them around still. But there was a reason Ford didn't use them for very long in their pickups.

The 255 V8 and the 3.8L V6 were very short lived in the F-series, and there is little to no aftermarket support for them whatsoever.
