I think my alternator is dead....

My battery light was flickering on and off the other day, so I went to autozone to have them test my batteries and alternator. Before I get into this, let me say that I replaced one battery about two months ago. I know.....

So when he did the test, he said the older battery was dead, and the alternator wasn't giving him a reading at all. So I went and bought a new battery, hoping the light would go away, and of course it didn't. So, my alternator is dead too. I'm going to get a new one today from Autozone next to my office for $174 plus tax+core which comes out to about $220ish.

It's a duralast alternator that they stock, does anybody know about these? Should I call the ford dealer and see what they have to offer?

Napa has one, but I couldnt understand what the guy was saying as a brand name, "PA" or "DA" or something like that?

What do you guys recommend for an alternator, or are they all comparable. The napa one was $5 more.

I've used Autozone's Duralast Gold Alternator and Batteries on my truck and haven't had a problem with either.

The only problems I had were loose battery connections and those were my fault. They were still kind enough to replace everything under warranty. That's another thing, if you hit a fork in the road, theres almost always an autzone nearby, so you're not stuck....

You'll spend some cash on parts, but it's something you can do right there in the parking lot with the right tools...

Get what ever one has a lifetime warranty...

Alt's are easy to change if they should go bad. Last one I got from Napa has a lifetime... And the starter I just got from AutoZone as well! I dont mine changing parts from time to time.

Yeah this one has a limited lifetime warranty...I'm not worried about the change, it's probably one of the easiest things to do! I haven't had to mess with the belt on my 7.3 yet, is the tensioner easy to deal with on these? I know it was on my 85 GMC gasser
