I can't get the rear gate window open on my 98 Explorer. I push in the lock release button and nothing happens. It hasn't opened since I bought the vehicle a year ago and fixing the window is on my spring project list.
Is there a way to manually release the locking mechanism from the inside? I need to unlock the window in order to remove the door trim panel. Once I have the trim panel off, I'm sure I can replace the lock mechanism.
The '98 has a different rear door than mine, so I am kind of stabbing in the dark. On mine, there is a snap-in piece above where the glass catch pin comes into. If I pop that cap off, I can get to the locking mechanism and can get it to release. Does yours have this?
I can pop off the plastic cover to see the top of the lock mechanism. I am wondering if I can pry the metal piece back on the lock mechanism that latches onto the metal u shaped piece from the window. It doesn't want to move easy and I wasn't sure if I could safely force it open or on.
On the other hand, I'm going to be replacing some of the lock hardware anyway so I may go outside and pry away. Its already broken so I figure I can't do much worse
