I'm driving home today from work and the truck just shut down while driving.
I was excelerating not hard just average. I was at approx. 35 mph no turn or braking and the truck literally just shut off. No sputtering no noise it just shut off and I lost steering and brakes.. Thank god I was not near anyone so I coasted over to the breakdown lane and put it in park. The key was still in the normal drive position. Turned the key off and then restarted it like normal. Drove it home and it is parked till I figure out what is happening.
Kind of scared to drive it cause I could get in a serious accident if it happened in traffic or on the highway.
I don't but I can get one at NAPA or get one at the dealership. What are your recommendations? I read about the black and a gray one, which one do I want and where to get it.
I did not have the recall done cause I had it replaced a few years back by a garage. Will the dealership give me one or would they insist on putting it in themselves
Depends on the dealer? I have a relationship with the parts counter and I was given the CPS and Cruise Control recalls, but some dealers want to do it?
Went to the local International dealer and picked up the early '99 CPS. parts guy stated that the number I gave him was discontinued and that this is the new one #1876736C91. Put it in without problems and will drive today and see if it cured my issue.
Thanks to Guzzle for his website instructions.
I did after I was done with the install. It was about 50% on the stick. I've driven about 25 miles today and so far so good.
Thanks for the help everyone, this site is great.
