Ive just bought a 64 f100 6cyl with 3 0n the tree its geared way to low 4:11 s id like to get 60 mph and not be geared to high id appreciate some advice thanks
Are you any where close to Fresno,, I have 3.50s and I would like to drop to 4.10's,, I live up in the mtns. and the little 6 (240) just doesn't have the ummph to make it up the hills,,,
BTW,, WELCOME to FTE!!
Don't mean to argue, I'm not sure the 223 can pull a 3.00 rear. It's a combo effect, with a little horse up front you have to have a short wagon hitched to it.
I would not be afraid to go to 3.75 but no more than 3.50. The last post is a good example.
Thanks for the input , i live near Toronto Canada so i dont think the swap will work , what kind of mph are you getting out of the 3:50 i am planning on giving the engine some work to boost the hp but i have to be able to drive it in the mean time

Be honest with ya,,, my mileage sucks,,, probly 10,, but,, I go 1 mile uphill then 4 down to work,,, and 5 uphill and 1 down on the way home,,, I am either in 3rd (T18) going uphill,, or 4th coasting down,,, not really an in between,,, my other 66 F250 I had, I had the 300 with a 4bbl and headers and 4.10's if I stayed out of it,, which was hard! I could grab 15-16 in flats and avg 13-14 up here,,, if your driving is mostly flats,,, I would expect 14-16 if you stay in the 55-62 range.
Ya, i guess it's not a smart car. Thanks for the info! I'm just getting started. I'm sure we will talk in the future. I will let you know how I make out.
