I'm trying to replace the upholstery on the lower bench seat in my 1973 F250 Highboy. I was surprised to find something interesting under the cheap seat cover.
The sides of the seat are a standard brownish, grained, vinyl that matches the rest of the interior perfectly. But the seat surface has a rectangle panel that spans 100% from front to back, and 90% of the horizontal direction. Its a southwestern/cowboy pattern - sort of looks like black and brown tiny weave.
Is there any chance that this is a factory pattern, with any hope of finding a replacement? The entire seat appears to be original in color and age. The upper seatback is in great shape, only the lower needs a splice or replacement.
Open the left door, look at the face of it below the latch, it's attached with two rivets...may be painted over.
Suggestion: Edit your post - REMOVE the second pic that has the key dangling. I can 'read' key cuts, could cut a key exactly the same.
Thieves troll the internet looking for stuff to steal...and some can also 'read' keys.
Peeps don't think, post pics of their vehicles with license plate numbers visable. Some post pics not only of their vehicles, but parked where their addresses and/or street names are visable.
No such name as "chainmail" vinyl. That may be what you call it, but FoMoCo does not. I just read thru the '73/74 upholstery section, nary a chainmail do is see.
smsautofabrics.com has the upholstery, but the body code should be furnished to get the right material.
I see the VIN plate, and a 2" square sticker that has been painted over, and scratched unsuccessfully until it is torn. No other solid plates or stickers anywhere on either door or door jamb.
What am I trying to do - match the color properly? Perhaps I can send them a swatch from the ripped section.
I see the VIN Warranty plate, and a 2" square sticker that has been painted over, and scratched unsuccessfully until it is torn. No other solid plates or stickers anywhere on either door or door jamb.

No such thing as a VIN plate on these trucks. The VIN plate is attached to the dash, visible thru the left corner of the windshield. None on trucks until the 1980's.
The sticker (glued onto the B pillar [door post]) is the: Safety Standards Certification Label, does not have the BODY code or much of anything else listed.
Look on the Warranty Plate's 2nd line. Has the W.B (wheelbase), then codes for the COLOR, MODEL, BODY, TRANS, AXLE listed. The codes are reversed embossed, so even if painted over, can be read.
If you cannot discern which code is which, post all of them.
There isn't anything at all, other than the vin tag, which has the vin number only. Its a california replacement vin tag... I presume the info your asking is either on the original plate or some other plate that is also gone.
I called the upholstery shop - they call it, "Ginger knit vinyl". Their new online matching facility is terrific - you can match it with a close up color photo - its identical!
Thanks for the help. p.s. I don't need to worry about having that key copied.

A CA replacement VIN "tag" means the truck was either a theft recovery, has a salvage title or the hidden VIN stamped on the frame rail was unreadable or "messed with."
Seen examples of these "CA" VIN's before...since I was a Ford partsman here in LA LA Land for 35 years.

Read the paragraph under "Ranger Interior". Says "chain mail pattern vinyl". Granted, they could have started that between '74 & '79 and the seat isnt original.
