Brake Controller

Hooked up the boat trailer for the first time since getting the truck and the integrated controller lights up and seems to be doing what it should. I tried manually locking the brakes and it will not actuate. It works fine hooked to my dads 01' with a reese controller. The trailer is electric over hydraulic brakes, any ideas? Thanks

Not enough information to say, but for starters, how did you determine the controller is working with the pedal and have you checked the seven-pin on the truck to see what kind of voltage you are getting at the pin for the trailer brakes when operating manually?

When you say "will not actuate" what is the IBC message on the screen when you manually work the lever?

Yeah I saw he said that. Wonder if it truely is working or not. As you said Steve checking the voltage at the pin would confirm that.

Its really rare for a controller to work with the pedal, but not the slide.

I should have been more clear. Everything lights up to show a trailer is connected, but It will not actuate the brakes period. I can put it up to over 5 (4.5 is what we use on the 01 w/ reese) and nothing happens. Manually nothing happens either, even though the bar shows it should be. It seems like everything works truck side and I know the trailer works (tested with the 01), but there seems to be something lost in translation between my 07 and the trailer. No messages show on info center. You say it may not work with elec/hyd? What would be the diff it would just be an elec signal no? Pardon my ignorance

Best to consult the owners manual but I think it has something to do with the signal type required and the fact that the TBC is integrated with the PCM and ABS system.

See the link on the basic operation. This only holds true up to 2010 model year. My understanding is the 2011's are now compatible

I wonder if there is some type of fix to make it work I mean someone must have come up with a solution there are enough elec-hyd units out there. Maybe a 2011 unit can be installed

I recall some discussion in the past about the integrated TBC and electric/hydraulic brakes. There is an actuator unit in the trailer and the TBC worked with some actuators and not others.

Depending on the model actuator you have, something like this might work as well.

From the link you posted I found this Hydrastar Control Adapter Module Carlisle Accessories and Parts HBA-CAM

It looks like that would work, as I have a Carlisle HBA-10 actuator. Anybody installed one of these?

That looks like it ought to work well. I have no experience in it but as longs as there are wiring diagrams included it should be pretty straight forward.

Now the question I have is when this is put on the truck and you have a all electric trailer hooked up will this interfer? I would suppose you would need to as that of the manufactor.

From what I can tell it installs on the trailer? I will do some checking beforw I install it, but it seems like the solution we need. I also have to make sure it doesn't change anything for when it is hooked to the 01 as my Dad will be towing it a lot more than I will.

I would think it would go on the trailer, not the truck. It should let the electronic/hydraulic actuator work with any trailer controller.
