V10 Resale

I don't post much but I have a few questions regarding V10 resale. What is the current status of the V10 in today's market? Are used V10s desirable compared to the new 6.2L?

I have an '08 Regular cab V10 F-350 which I don't use very much. I am considering selling the truck but I don't want to take a huge hit.

Any thoughts / comments are much appreciated.

-Tom

I usually check my local Craigslist or Trader to get an idea on vehicles I sell.
I have a '99 that I ordered and paid for. It is a hard for me to sell it because I know I will not get what it's wurth to me. I'm not desperate right now so I'm keeping it as my hunting/utility vehicle.

Yeah, I agree, the question is what is it "worth to me", if you own it. Now, if you're making payments, and having to justify them to wifey, that's a whole other ball of wax....

I just bought a V10 and didnt even consider a diesel or a V8. It's just finding the right buyer at the right time. Put it up for sale and if you dont need to sell it dont lower your price. Theyre not in as much demand as the diesels with the diesels being trendy these days, but there are still guys that dont need a diesel or want a V8.

Pretty much sums up my situation when I bought. I did not want a diesel, but I needed power and reliablity, so the V10 was it. Trouble is, not one of my worthless local dealers ( Eureka, Ca area) would even look for a Lariat, crew cab, 4x4 shortbed for me. Their loss, I searched the internet, found exactly what I wanted in Utah (1100 miles away), struck a deal over the phone, bought a plane ticket for $250 (actually talked them into dropping the price that much so the plane ride was free) and drove it home. Haven't been sorry I bought it for one second since and that was 2 years ago. Trust me, someone out there is looking for your truck right now, all you have to do is advertise it and wait.

Sand Man is a very smart fellow. He got a good truck with a great engine (V-10) and even got the seller to pay for the plane trip. What a negotiator! A good newer (2005-up) with the TorqueShift transmission, in good condition, is a much better used truck than a used diesel with mystery background, especially if the diesel is over the warranty. A gasser over 60k and over warrantyis nothing compared to a problem with a diesel over 100k. Many former diesel owners are finding this out and are going back to a gasser. If you have a really nice V-10, then hang tuff, you'll get a good price for it.

In february I got rid of my diesel for a v10. Had a 06 F350 lariat 6.0 psd with forty thousand miles. The diesel didnt work for me very well as it sat at home a lot and did not get drove enough. traded for an 09 f250 v10 lariat loaded with 88000 miles. the v10 was priced at 29000, got 31000 in trade for the diesel. I did take a hit on the mileage, but got two grand back and the v10 had a grand worth of brand new 20 inch goodyears. Not sorry one bit. The v10 does just as well pulling mpg wise as the 6.0, has just as much power, and I dont have to worry about a turbo going out or all the other 6.0 problems. MPG not as good when not pulling, but I really only drive the truck with a trailer or camper behind it anyway, I dont have to drive it to work.

Any way I guess the v10 held its value, 2-3 years old with 88000 miles and priced at 29 grand.

You wont have any trouble selling your truck. It’s an instant classic. It is the shortest wheelbase with the biggest motor. Some guys love that. It’s like catnip they go nuts. Plus you have the rarest and most desirable of the the superdutys ’08-’10, only made for three years. It is a known fact that these are the best looking trucks, it’s just that owners of other years don’t want to admit they secretly covet. Any how the big trick is market, market, market. There is some one who want’s your V10.

Sand Man your searching and purchasing strategy echoes mine almost exactly-----great minds think alike!

I'm searching for an E350 extended body with the V10 and while just a bit particular about some features and its previous use/ownership the internet is one very powerful tool. Locally there is almost nothing even out of my price range and it seems the best selection is just about 1,000 miles away. Most online dealers will accomodate an out-of-town buyer since they're aware its a highly motivated buyer. eBay is my choice since the Feedback feature gives a general idea of a seller's reputation or willingness to resolve any problems.

eBay also has a free classified ads section for vehicles-----worth checking out, test the waters.

As already said there's a market for most anything, patience is the key to buying or selling. Hopefully there's no urgent need to do either as that puts a bit too much pressure to do something, not always the best for the bigger picture.

Best of luck!

Also check out ksl.com - Utah News, Sports, Weather and Classifieds and go to their classifieds. The Salt Lake City area uses this web site rather than Craig's List and is alot better.

Another great search tool is allofcraigs.com - Search ALL of Craigslist it searches every craigslist in the country so you can see what trucks like yours are going for, as well as search for a truck the next time you're buying.

If you are willing to wait and have a decent price someone will buy it.

If you need to unload a truck right away I don't care what motor it has you need a good selling price to make it move. It all depends on what you owe to what its worth in the market and if you are looking for a profit or just to get it out of the driveway.

The V10 carries with it the burden of bad fuel mileage, but no one buys these things for great mpgs. Reg cabs are very useful as work trucks for contractors, landscapers,etc... I got mine at such a steal as it isnt such a desireable truck for a work vehicle, short bed dually V10, that I could probably sell it no prob as the price would be low. But I don't plan on selling. There is a buyer out there, you just have to wait for them and then turn on the inner salesmen!!!

What do you owe on this truck? What does it sell for now in the used market? Know these things and you should know if you'll take a hit or not.

Guys,

Thanks for all the help!

I have a handful of payments left on the truck. I have seen comparable trucks (similar options / mileage) on Autotrader for ~$25,000. Earlier this week, I did list it on Autotrader for $24,995. In addition, I also purchased a Ford Extended Service Plan good to 75,000 miles.

I am not in a big hurry to sell but I hate to see it waste away in the garage.
