Dust intrusion around the tailgate! I have a 2006 Tundra with a Snugtop canopy and have never had an issue with dust getting inside the bed. Yesterday I took the F-350 out on some Forest Service roads and really enjoyed the truck......until I opened the canopy (also a Snugtop). Everything was heavily coated in fine dust
I guess I should have noticed how poorly the tailgate "seals". I found this at Amazon and will try it: Amazon.com: Lund 30002 Genesis Tailgate Seal: Automotive
Anyone else notice this? I'm just glad I didn't have my camera equip. in the back like I sometimes do in the Tundra
Yep. I've noticed the tailgate fits a bit loose. I have the Extang seal also. I haven't put it on yet. I am waiting until I get my cap (haven't ordered one yet, I can live with my tonneu for a little while longer).
I put that Extang seal on after I got my tonneau. We went to Myrtle Beach and hit some pretty strong rain on the way. I didn't find anything wet or even damp in the bed when we arrived. I haven't been on any really dusty roads yet so I can't attest to that capability but it does seem to keep the water out very well.
If I remember right while shopping for tonneau covers at truckaddons.com I noticed that they throw in a tailgate seal for free if you buy a tonneau cover.
I don't have a tonneau though, I can't find one that will work with my in bed toolbox so I gave up on that idea.
I have to date owned 4 Ford pickups, and not one of them had any mechanism to seal the tailgate. So to comment on how "poorly" it does this job is like talking about how poorly your truck would float if you roll it into a lake. It wasn't designed to do this, so we can't expect it to work.
But as others have said, there are sealing products on the market. I received one when I ordered my tonneau cover from AutoAnything, but I never used it. If dust bothers you I would recommend getting something like this.
Leer 700 Tonneau with a Bedrug and no moisture, dust, or snow inside. Snug as as a bug in a rug so to speak. I guess when you look at a pickup truck it was not really designed to have a bed that is weathertite. That came along later and it's called an SUV
When i got my bakflip hd. they sent a seal that looks like a door seal, just smaller. it worked so well i ordered enough to go all the way around. only thing is once it touchs anything it is stuck. it will rip seal before it comes loose.
