Where does this plug into?

Hi guys, helping my cousin with a head gasket job an a 3.0 ford ranger. a little out of my normal realm but, we have it back together but it was running very rough and wont restart. I found this plug that is not connected but cannot find where it plugs into. Can any one point us in the right direction?

Thanks in advanced!

oh yeah if you cant tell from the picture, it is on the drivers side rear of the motor. Also on the same loom is the plug that goes to the distributor.

Look underneath the vehicle atop the tranny or beside it, I believe you will find it hanging there

???????????????????want to say oil sending unit but that just don't fit as it's on the other side, correct???????????? Seems to me, possibly the top rail of the tranny for another place to look, rear of stick hooked to the back two bolts of the top plate.

Rough putting something back together that someone else took apart

so there are the injector wires, two white connectors that run back toward the transmission (manual) and this mystery connection all on the same harness, there is not much slack for it to to move and we cant find any loose wires hanging down. i assumed since the inside of the connector is so clean that it was connected before, is there any chance that this does not get connected up?

That sounds just like the connection I had when I did my tranny swap a month ago. No guarentee, but if they both look the same cleanlinesswise, it sure sounds like the connection....What tipped me off to this as a good chance was you said there isn't much slack for the connection.

Try looking in the engine again, right behind the manifold / exhaust connection, really tight fit at the firewall, behind the cover

ok we now have the intake manifold and the valve cover off to give us room to look and still no dice.

here is the harness if it gives you a better look. very top above my hand goes to the dist. two white connections go down toward the trans and the one i am holding is the mystery one.

i just read somewhere that this could be for automatics only, this would explain why i cant find a place to put it in. The only thing that bothers me is the plug looks too darn clean to not have been plugged into something.

I'm at a loss. the only other thing near that is the wiper motor, surely it wouldn't go there.

If you read it may be for automatics just make sure you got it from a reliable sourse.

Check the first links to this thread with the red letters READ FIRST maybe you can find some answers there...

What color are the wires? I went out and looked at my truck and there is a plug hanging with a green and red wire that is not connected to anything. I have a manual transmission no cruise control and no 4x4 it could be prewired to go to any of those things I (or you) don't have.
