Fuel Pressure Low - HELP

I have a 2006 F250 6.0 Turbo Diesel. Every time I reach 50+ mph, my truck starts to chatter or something. I brought it in to have it looked at and the mechanic said it was the transmission. I brought it to a transmission expert and his diagnosis revealed nothing wrong with the transmission. He hooked my truck up to the OBD II scanner and it showed "fuel pressure low". I have already changed both fuel filters and still having the same issue. Does any know anything about this?

All I can say is don't trust this mechanic. OBD II does not show fuel press. Correct me, anyone, if I'm wrong.

That is possible, but what about the issue with my truck chattering when I reach 50 mph?

Do you remember the fault code # (DTC) ? If not swing by the parts store and have them scan it again and make a note of the code. Might be able to help some with that info.

To elaborate on this some. There is no sensor on the truck for fuel pressure. So there is no way to get that info form the computer.

Maybe, he meant the code said "injection control pressure low", and he took that as fuel pressure was low. If you can find out what they actual code was then we can go from there.

I will try to do it tomorrow, i think he did say injector pressure low. He also told me that maybe my fuel pump was going out.

Injector control pressure low would indicate a problem in the high pressure oil system, and has nothing to due with fuel pressure.

Get a scangaugeII and diagnose it yourself, or find another mechanic. It is pretty quick to determine if it is the Injection Control Pressure (high pressure oil system pressure)that is too low. It takes a little bit more time to hook up the gauges and other equipment to determine if the fuel pressure is too low.

If the the ICP is low, it could be a number of things. The first step would be to look at the IPR duty cycle along w/ the ICP (pressure).

It was the guy at the transmission shop that pulled the code for him. Getting a scangauge is a great idea. Cheek this out CUNIO:
http://www.scangauge.com/support/x-gauge-commands/
this link is for the xgauge part. 40 something gauges can be displayed 4 at a time. Also a trip computer and pulls codes. Leave it in your truck to monitor oil temp so you know BEFORE something craps out. Inexpensive for what it does.

I was doing so more research and I found this forum:

P2285 Injector Control Pressure Sensor Circuit Low - Diesel Forum - TheDieselStop.com

I think my ICP Sensor is going out. I also have a very minor oil leak, a drop of oil were develop on the bottom side on the front end of the tranny. It appears to come from the rear of the engine. Tomorrow I am going to get the truck scanned and I will post the DTC code afterwards.

could be, but the late 04 and up model years ICP sensors are not all that unreliable.

Might icp, but I would bet more on ipr being the problem than icp

Ipr= injector pressure regulator. Basically is icp reads hpo and sends it to the computer as volts. The computer interprets that and tells the ipr to open more or close more to get the desired oil pressure to drive the injectors.

What did you use to scan for codes? Have you checked FICM volts? There is a thread in the tech folder that explains how. If you plan to do your own repairs might want to get a scangauge II. There like $140 iirc, and will allow you to see lots of different info that will aid in helping you get this fixed.
