Is it too late?

Newbie Diesel driver here...
I am really enjoying learning about the Diesel world. However my bank account is not. The advice on this forum is awesome. Anyway I just had An EGR delete and new oil cooler done. I would have went with new studs too but I didn't have the money. The reason I did this was my EGR died and killed everything else along with it. I had Oil in the coolant as well. The mechanic that I used seemed to do the repair well but I don't think he flushed the coolant properly (according to the procedure in the tech folder). He only used dawn to clean the oil out. My question is if I do a complete flush with VC-9 right now am I just going to clog up my new oil cooler? Is it too late to do a proper cleaning? Thoughts? Suggestions?

I apologize... I am sure this is addressed in another thread but I couldn't seem to find it.

Dawn is a very good way to clean oil out of a cooling system. Used it many times with good results. I wouldn't worry about it and just leave it how it is.

Ok...that makes me feel a little better. What are the conditions/situation where a cleaning with VC-9 would be used then?

Wherther it is or is not "to late" does not come in to question for your case. Reason beeing you could not do a vc-9 flush until the egr cooler was been replaced anyhow.
Assuming you are talking about a 6.0 since that is what this forum is about. You should install aftermarket guages and a coolant filter yesterday, well today is almost as good. The oil and coolant tempatures observed will tell you wherether it is nessary to vc-9 flush and if so,the after temps will let you know if the oil cooler clogged as a result therby requiring another teardown for another oil cooler.
Cheer up,you didn't nessarly make a mistake.

The Oil temp and the coolant temp should not be more than 15 degrees apart correct?

IMO, if it ain't broke don't fix it. Now I've learned that saying doesn't always apply when it comes to this engine, but in your case I think it does. If your ECT/EOT delta is fine, which I would assume it is considering your EGR and oil coolers are brand new, just leave it alone. That is why I haven't done a coolant flush yet. I've heard too many stories on here about people ending up worse than they started after attempting a flush.

Thanks for the great responses. I have heard of those stories too and I was concerned I would be one of the "unlucky ones". My truck would be a big paper weight if I killed the new oil cooler I just don't have the $$$ for that any time soon. I've been eyeing the sinister coolant filter and as soon as I can get the cash it will be on order. I've also started coming up with a plan for guages. Just to clarify though I did not replace the EGR I deleted it.

for gauges a scangauge is cheap and covers alot well worth the 160.00$$

It will monitor ECT and EOT FICM ICP IPR volts boost and a bunch more those are just some of the main ones

www.scangauge.com

if your oil cooler does plug again its new enough that it can be flushed clean

IMHO its just the oil coolers with high miles on them that cant be flushed that stuff is too packed in there

It could be left over IDK hows your oil leval

If it popped the oil cooler before did the mechanic change all the rubber hoses there also supposed to change the heater core, radiator, coolant bottle, water pump but since its summer and hasnt been on it probably didnt get any in there the heater core

watch that oil leval close but I bet its just left over stuff It take alot of flushes to get it cleared up some of the techs recomend using simple green cleanwer to flush after a popped oil cooler

sorrey man a poppped oil cooler is a mess from hell
