91 150 jerking.

Hey I have a 91 f150 that I just bought and have been working out the kinks, The original problem was alot of jerking under load especially hills, and at low rpms, So I decided to do a tune up i figured it was never done, Wow was I right , plug gap was 75!!! 6 wires broke off and were stuck to the plugs, so i did a full tune up . PCV valve, Air Filter, Plugs,( gapped them to proper specs, ) Wires, Cap, rotor, fuel filter..

Now the truck only jerks when holding a constant speed?? when I accel it goes away no problems, and decell, same thing no jerking, Just when im trying to hold a constant speed. Any Ideas?? I cant think of anything besides bad injectors or clogged any tips appreciated.

Definitely your TPS. I have the same problem on my truck. Rock solid answer though.

Here's a link to my thread explaining my symptoms, which are identical to yours.

Haven't gotten around to fixing it, but will soon. I'll update when I do, or if you end up doing it first, then let me know if this solved your problem.

Hope that linked helped. Good Luck!

Have you pulled trouble codes yet? You can throw parts at until you accidentally hit the right thing, or run DTC codes and let the truck tell you what it needs..

BTW..... TPS is throttle position sensor

You don't need a code reader, although it makes it MUCH easier.. Just go here: Ford Fuel Injection » How To Run a Self-Test

I think dude was right. In the book it says bad tps will cause surging and jerking, hesitation on accel, sudden dieing of the engine, and unsteady idle, That just explained everything that happened. Thanks for that link to self Diog that will come in handy! Appreciate it fellas

Took me about 10 minutes. But I have the 4.9 300 I6, my throttle body is easy as hell to get to. Your 5.0, well that's a different story!

Sorry.

I went and looked at it the other day, and then I looked at the sun, Then I looked back at the truck, Then I looked up at the sun, Then I looked at My cold beer. And Said Not NOW.. Is she running better though, Did you notice any difference in the down shift at all?
