PLEASE HELP!!!
Hi, I am in the process of building a mild street 351W. As of right now I will have a edelbrock high rise air gap intake, engine is bored .060 over (i know its thin but it was free so I can work with it), double roller timing set, headers, holley 600 or 650 DP (havnt decided yet), cam spring and lifter kit-TBD and that is where the question lies. I have the option to pick up a lunati 61004 cam and lifter kit with comp springs for a good price. If I take the time to port my STOCK heads will this cam work??? I want a nice real lopey idle, I know this will probably have negative affects on low end performance but the way I see it, im on a budget build and this is a good price. so if it WILL WORK without hurting the engine then im going to go with it. So please post back and let me know what you think!!!!
also this is not a daily driver, it will be a weekend warrior at most lol

You will need to check everything in the valve train for clearance and measure for a custom push rod length. As cams go it's not all that big. A good port and polish job will help out. I don't know how well it will work for you not knowing any of the engine specs, gear ratio, intended usage, etc.

here is where im at, im pretty sure my block is pre 84 i dated it once and i have a terrible memory so once again im not sure. I would walk out in the garage and date it but i am away at school right now and dont have access to it. I am only using the stock heads (port and polished) right now as a temporary solution. i dont have the means to slap on a new set of heads or else i would. i had already planned on a new set of pushrods (im just a little confused on how to figure out the correct measurements i need, if anyone could tell me how to measure for correct pushrod length that would be great) will i need longer or shorter? how much do custom pushrods cost? @thugren i was considering a 600 until i talked to my uncle and hes gonna sell me a Holley 750 for CHEAP gotta love family discounts. im not very concerned about getting peak performance out of it right now because im just dropping it in the truck to drive up and down main street, no drag strip i just want a mean sounding truck. i cant say i wont get on it, but im not gonna be running through the gears.

I would look into a different build...(1) the cam is too big, for a 8:1 motor unless your running 4:56 gears or more.. and then you need to upgrade that motor...(2) 600 carb would be fine but, you want to look into a dual plane intake instead to keep your torque down low. and if your heads or block isn't decked or shaved you can use your same push rods..
