Well I have a 78 f150, I believe with a C6. I pull a 19 ft boat and it seems really sluggish. Do I need to rebuild it? Do you think I need to make it stronger or just rebuild it to stock?
I just replaced the fluid in everything. This might be nothing but the emergency brake cable has a lot of slack. I have only had the 8 months and have never used the E brake. If this is the problem then do i just tear down the back brakes and free it up.

i think being a little more specific may help us out.
what do you mean, exactly, when you say slugish?
what does it do when you take of easy? loaded and unloaded?
what does it do when you stand on it? loaded and unloaded?
does it act differently when the truck is cold vs warm?
I'm asking for more info because my C6 does act much differently than modern transmissions.
you might think mine is slugish because it wont shift out of first until 20mph no matter how easy you drive it. but it will just about bark the tires when it does. especially when cold.
but if you put a heavy load on it, the shifts no longer seem harsh, even when cold. It also pulls away smoothly at any rpm, and will run all they way up to the shift point without "nosing over" at any given throttle angle. (I have had some that pull good until they get to a certian RPM and then just 'nose over" until they shift. indicating a high RPM problem that was fixed by a rebuild)
Mine has 85K on it and seems to be healthy, so i think this is what they are supposed to do.
more info please i'm sure we can help you out ... lotsa really smart folks on here (i'm not one of them, however)
