According to the AirQualitee Cabin Air Filters Catalog and a few threads here and other websites, it was not installed in the stock vehicles.
There was an accessory option Cabin Filter Kit, Part # F65Z-18 D 477AA. If this was installed in your truck you can change the filter.
The Kit is obsolete and not available from Ford.
If you have one it's behind the glove box, see this: How to Change a Ford Expedition Cabin Filter | eHow.com

Hi,
My expedition 2000 has the slot plugged by some plastic. Opened the lid, it had no screws, pulled out the plugs, so is there someone who cut out the filter slot plastic?
Can a standard filter fit in the slot if the plastic seal is cut out?
What is so different in the kit Part # F65Z-18 D 477AA . Is it something with special holders or what?
Thanks,
Vahagn
Just cut out the plastic cover on my Expy 2000 a/c housing. Now need to buy the filter and install it.
Not a big deal at all. Drilled small holes along the plastic perimeter and cut with a cutter.
The heat exchanger
The filter slot
This is the filter slot seal, wonder if the hex is dismountable, will try tomorrow.
