How do I tell if I have SecuriLock?

I've only 1 key for my newly-purchased 2005 Excursion. Was just going to buy another couple keys and have them cut, but the owners manual suggests that my vehicle might be equipped with an annoying-sounding feature called "SecuriLock". Sounds like maybe there's an RFID chip in the key, or something, and so only such keys, programmed for my vehicle, will work. Ick...

How can I tell if my Excursion has SecuriLock? And is my only recourse, if I have only one key, to go to the dealer and have them program a new key for me?

Ah, did a bit more searching and answered my own questions:
- I do have Securilock
- I do have to go to the dealership (or a special locksmith)
- it will be expensive

Sorry for the noise...

You can still buy keys, have them cut, and program them yourself.

Check your owner's manual for instructions.

I think you need 2 keys to do that.

I have yet to try them but Walmart is selling Securilock (PATS) keys for Fords now.
$69.00 The Automotive department clerk told me.

Your '05 requires you to have 2 already programed keys in order to program additional keys yourself.

You can have as many as 8 keys assigned to a vehicle at a time.
I have 4 keys programed for each of my PATS protected vehicles.
Should I lose one I can cut a spare blank to match and then program it to the vehicle.
I buy key blanks for $10 ea. from a seller on E Bay.

You can buy an OEM PATS key on E-Bay for less than $15. Any locksmith should be able to cut it.

Programming it is the problem. Some locksmiths might be able to do it. Ford will charge a lot to do it. You can do it yourself if you have 2 keys already.

If you're lucky enough to be around someone with AutoEnginuity, it can do it.

I had a local locksmith cut and program a new key for $45. Check around, it's not that bad.

Wasn't able to find a locksmith who could do it, unfortunately, and as I had only 1 key, I could not add on additional keys. Ended up taking it to the dealer, who charged me "only" $30 for each key (not too bad, I got 2) and $70 for programming them all (ouch!). $130 is certainly the most expensive set of keys I've ever had the pleasure of getting cut...

Thanks for all the help!

Now go to Ebay and find a key seller.
Buy 2 or 3 blanks.
Here you go less than $10ea delivered;

Ford Early Models Transponder PATS KEY (k01fsckc) | eBay

Get two of them cut and program them yourself.

Why have four keys?
(1) Your key.
(2) Spouse key.
(3) Key in drawer at home (Instant lost key replacement)
(4) Key that Parent/friend has. (For when you lose your key While on the road
They can bring/Overnight it to you)

One other trick is to put the chip from a working key near the steering column. This way, you could just cut any regular Ford key and start it. If you lose a key, just get it cut at any locksmith or Walmart for a buck or so.

The downside is that your truck can be started if you can turn the lock cylinder with a screwdriver.

You should have only bought 1 key from the dealer and then a few from eBay. The dealer could have programed 2nd key and then with 2 you could program the rest.

I have 4 now, 1 for me, 1 the wife, 1 at home, and 1 taped under the truck in one of the numerous electrical bundles under there so only I know where it is. This is when and if we lose one while on the road somewhere so I dont have to wait for one sent

Don't tell anyone but I did too.
I also have a non PATS/Securilock key in a magnetic box that I can get to easy should I lock myself out.
It will key open the door lock but will not start the vehicle.
The rescue key is a bit harder to get out.

Wouldn't you just punch in your 5 digit code to unlock your door?
