2007 ford explorer 4.0 some days starts up normal and other days sounds like if battery is dead. Today it didn't want to start, waited 5 min and start it up but seems like the battery is weak. any suggestions?
Check to make sure all your connections at the battery and starter are clean and free of corrosion. They say you can use a little bit of Coca-Cola to clean the terminals, but is so acidic it will eat the terminals. use a 50/50 mixture of baking soda and distilled water and a wire brush. you may even need to remove your terminal ends from the cables and clean those up as well. as my electrical teacher said: "a loose, dirty, corroded connection will give you VD (Voltage Drop)" if this doesnt do the trick, you should try to see if your battery is reaching full charge with a volt meter. 12.45 volts is preffered. if you have a buddy start the truck for you while you have the volt meter on the battery and it drops below 9.6 volts, you need a new battery. if you get so lucky to get your hands on an amperage draw tester, youll be able to see if your starter is seizing up. that last one is difficult for the average joe to obtain. a local shop should have one. hope this helps.

All these test presume you have a fully charged battery, the alternator is not designed to charge a dead battery, just to top it off.
Put battery on a good charger, 10amp to start, then 2amp overnight..
You need and DC amp clamp meter to check the draw on the starter.... Philip
