Ok guys got one for you, I have read the many threads on this but can't figgure my issue.
Truck: 1978 f150 custom, short box 4x4, 351m, no cruse
my blinkers do not work. Front or rear. All other lights work fine. hazzards work, brake lights work.
I have switched the flasher unit both work in the hazzard slot.
Trouble shooting: at the blinker flasher i have 12 volts, throw the blinker left or right and the power drops to 0.
Un plugged all the lights and power stays.
With the bulbs pulled I found 3.24 volts at the blinker treminial, with the key to acc or once to right. turn the key off on voltage.
I jumped 12 volts to the out side of the flasher and throw the switch and the bulb lights, ( no flash bypassed the flasher)
I was thinkin ground but with the 12 volt jump I know its not at the light it self.
i redid the ground in the dash, and the one from the frame to the body... no help. Also did the ground from the battery to the block.
I was thinking of a dead short but I have yet to find it. Am I missing a ground?? Any help would be a great help.
There is a ground that connects to each half of the front headlights. I think the wire is brown and then black when it grounds? I can't remember right. Anyway, each there should be a separate ground for the front DS lights and front PS lights. Check those. I think the rears grounds somewhere in the bed.
When you check the voltage at the terminal, are you checking the one under the dash? And are you checking from terminal to terminal or terminal to ground?
I have checked every ground (continity) from each ground to the chasey, battery ground, and frame all checked out.
I was checking voltage at the light socket (blinker tab) with the key in the on posisition I get three volts. ( blinker arm in center not left or right.
With everything hooked up at the flasher unit I check for voltage I get 12 until I move the blinker slector left or right then the voltage drops to 0.
Ok update, not really sure what fixed this issue but here is what I did.
Replaced the flasher....... no fix
pulled blinker switch apart cleaned replaced.....no fix
pulled the fuse (its was good) replaced it and holly s@#% everything started working.
