The spindle on my oil pump was twisted in half what could cause this? And if it was twisted by the engine could my engine have problems from the rod braking or would the rod brake before it caused any trouble with the gear that runs it?
Take the pump apart and see if there is anything wrong in it. It's strange that the shaft would twist. The roll pin should always sheer first if the pump locks up.
Yup step one is to drop the oil pump and see what it looks like inside. When I bought my truck it had "a little water in the oil" but in reality the oil pump had locked up from lack of lube, split the drive shaft in two, and done significant damage to the engine. I have a picture here somewhere of the oil pump gear in side the housing trying to fit in two places at one time - not good at all.
i would like to see the pic of your lunched oil pump my looks ok and I puled it apart and seem ok but i am still going to replace it and when I look up in the engine it looks ok. so should i just reassemble and see who it works?
you talking about your oil pump driveshaft?? i assume youre running a 302 or 351w?? they are bad about twisting the shaft in half....you can get a motorsports shaft to remedy the problem
i just use a drill and what ever bit fits on it 5/16 maybe?? just make sure to tape the socket to the extension....no need for any thing other than the motor oil in the pan... then once its primed you put the dizzy back in
you put the shaft in the oil pump then you put an extension and socket(taped together) dont the hole the distributor goes in then you use an electric drill to "prime" the oil system with oil
