Does anyone know where to find Product Data Sheets that contain Flash Point, Pour Point, etc... on Walmart's Supertech Synthetic Oil. I would like to compare the numbers to Castrol GTX and Mobil 1 and some other oils to see how it matches up. I currently use GTX and a Wix Filter every 3000-5000 miles, but am interested in maybe running the Supertech Synthetic for the added Synthetic benefit, but at a reasonable price. thanks for the help.
I don't think you are going to find the info you want. Walmart was using Safety Kleen as a supplier. SK is a recycler of motor oils and after treatment would mix Group III with it to get it to spec. I don't think Walmart uses them anymore as they changed suppliers for their oil products. It would also depend on the part of the country you are in as they sometimes buy from regional packagers. Because of the price I think you will find it is a Group III dino (legally synthetic) which doesn't make it bad but it is not a true stnthetic as compared to Mobil One.
Thanks Flash. I figured that even though it might bew a Group III synthetic, that is should still perform better and have better numbers then the GTX dino and come in a close 2nd from real synthetic products. I just don't feel comfortable buying an oil for my truck that i know nothing about and thats why i want to find the numbers and supplier of Supertech to compare to other oils. Maybe i just stick to the GTX and Wix filters for now.
If you are looking for a good Group III, give Chevron Supreme a try. It's available at Walmart for $1.08 most places. Also, Castrol GTX is not a bad choice.
For some reason the walmarts in the MO and IL area haven't had SuperTech Syn on the shelf for 3 months. Kind of pisses me off because I started using the stuff as an experiment so I could have the oil analyed. Now I can't find the oil to finish my experiment. I sent a nasty email to Mr. Walmart and told him where he can stuff his can of oil.
Originally posted by SR77 I would be using the Chevron if I could find it, it is not sold up here in NJ.
I'm surprised you can't find Chevron products in New Jersey. They have a refinery in Perth Amboy, or at least used to. So I know for sure they do business in NJ.
I recall several months ago I went to a Walmart here in CT and they didn't have Chevron on the shelf, either. I thought it was just an isolated thing, because since that time I've gone to other Walmarts and they do have Chevron. So I don't know what to think.
I wish I could find Chevron Supreme in NJ, a group III at a cheap dino price, that would end the dino vs syn. thing for me. On Chevron's web site it says that it is sold at Sam's and BJ's. I went to Sam's and couldn't find it there either. I am gonna try BJ's next and hope that they have it. If there is anyone in NJ that uses or knows somewhere that sells Chevron Supreme, let me know. Thanks

Mobil One is not the only PAO/ester based synthetic oil. There are quite a few. The Mobil One is the number one selling OTC synthetic on the market and it was used as a comparison. The word "true" is a misnomer as there are no 100 % synthetic motor oils manufactured today. The synthetic basestocks will not mix with the additive packages so other stocks that will mix with the synthetics and also with the additive packages are used. They can be ester based or dino based.
