I'm in need of info about a project, I can get an 89 F150 XLT longbox and I'm trying to see in what it would take to shorten theframe and put on a shortbox
All comments welcome
Buy a short bed donor truck scan gov't auctions etc . Local/ state governments post auctions on the web. You just need the frame and bed. Or check out e-bay Cutting a frame and shortening it correctly will cost more than a donor truck.
I agree cutting the frame may sound easy but is a PITA. We did this on a 75 Chivy 3/4 ton that was used in truck pulls. The anchor point for the sled started about a foot from the back of the cab and was then welded to the rear frame horns. Pullin too much had distorted thr frame at the middle by six inches on each side. The frame looked like the budwiser emblem. We figured it woould be easier to cut out the bad section of frame the straighten it out. Would have been easir to start with a diff truck.
chopin the frame is not hard for someone with some fire skill it is a question of what tools you have and how well can you use them you can find a short box truck to get your measurements from i have welded a nova front frame under a 55 chevy truck it is wize to use large fish plates on the inside of the frame with several plug welds
