Will a Dana 80 out of a 2004 E450 DRW swap into my OBS-SD-PSD (1995 F450 DRW)?
I seriously need to regear my truck. It currently has a 5.13 rearend. 2600 RPM @ 55 MPH just doesn't cut it. Money is an issue and I can get the rearend out of the E450 cheap. It has a 4.10 ratio.
I know you guys with your little F350s (sorry, couldnt' resist) don't deal with the Dana 80 much but ya'll know a lot of stuff that I don't.
Any idea where to find this info online? Tried google with no sucess.
Thanks, Paul
The more I think about this the more I think it's a dumb question.
The chances of this being a direct bolt-in replacement are slim to none and there is a good chance the ring & pinion aren't even swappable.
The auction these are being sold on ends today so I don't have much time to research this.
What about the bolt pattern of the wheels? Would it be the same between the two axles? I know all our "little" trucks had a change in wheel lug pattern when the Super Duty body style started in '99, but I am not sure about the 10 bolt F-Super Duty wheels.
From what I can tell it has a 10 lug axle. But the rear calipers for the 2004 E450 aren't compatable with a 1995 F450 so I am assuming there are other differences as well.
I am sure they are both ten lug axles, but I am not sure of the lug spacing on them.
I am also pretty sure that the calipers would be different, but if you could get the axle with the calipers and rotors, you could maybe swap the whole unit into your truck, so long as the placement of the spring perches and shock mounts, 'etc would be the same. I guess worse come to worse you could always cut them off and weld them back into the correct locations for your truck.
I am just not 100% sure on any of this. Without it being a direct swap, which I am pretty sure it wouldn't be, you're likely going to have to do some fabrication to make it work. It might just be easier to re-gear the rear end you have now. Obviously I am not a F-450 guru as I don't have one. Maybe someone else will chime in that has more experience with this specific truck.
