Pictured is the NP435/Dana 20. Remember, I'm not used to working on pickups. This tranny is from a 70 pickup that had a Dana21 behind it square, output housing, not trapezoid. Actually it is a two wheel drive transmission Ford used with a Dana 21. divorced combo. I removed the yoke and used a 1" adapter plate, six cylinder intermediate housing and intermediate shaft. This combo saved me about $300 and did not have to modify my driveshafts. You have more room to work with and two tranny's if I remember right. Someone with more knowledge of your vehicle should be more help. The NP205 just doesn't fit between my frame rails and a diff combo may bolt right in for you.

Thank you for your help. I figured that this would have been a fairly common swap thats why I posted it first in my section but the lack of responses and then being reffered to yall because its a early bronco transfer case makes me think its not that common. I guess for now I just keep my eyes peeled for a d20 in the local yards and go from there.

Most of the time you can pick up a EB Dana20 for about $50. They come up time to time on classicbroncos.com in the classifieds. I even have one I'd sell you if you were close enough.

D21, that sounds dodge-ish. What is the vehicle, what are the 3 components? or is it 4 ur thinking of making a 'doubler'?

I actually have 2 dana 21s mated to NP435s and both came from f100s. What is a doubler? (Sorry don't know all the terminology)

a double is an adapter that allows you to connect two transfer cases to that you can multiply the low range... so if you have a transfer case that had a 2:1 low and connect to another tranfer case with a 2:1 low when you engage both of the cases you have a 4:1 low....

Right BF
some use a dodge range 'box' (1/2 their t-case). The real story is in final drive ratio. I think 1 app = 75:1 or something. That's alotta grunt @ low rev.

Chad: Back in the late 60's and 70's, Ford put the Dana 21 behind the NP435. While you had no low range in that transfer case, only 2hi and 4 hi, the low granny gear of the NP435 made up the difference. The divorced unit NP435 was actually a 2 wheel drive tranny.

mated/divorced

The divorced...was actually a 2 wheel drive tranny.
Can a divorced B easily moded/used in a mated system (the tranny or T-case)?
Never saw the divorced - a shaft connects t-case and tranny?
3 "driveshafts" seems hairy but most of our ol kin were so

Reason I ask is local told me he has a chebby divorced 205 (or 208?) he'd give me for the bronk...

Yep, short driveshaft connecting. When you start fooling around with these things, especially out of other makes of vehicle, you run into different spline counts and input/output shaft lengths. NP435 came with 28 and 31 spline output shafts making it necessary to have the right one to mate to the 28 spline Dana 20. On mine, removed the tail housing, yoke for drive shaft and used the adaptors to marry the two together.

Hi a good place to look is classicbronco.com the have lots of info on bronco an an swaps
look in the left side an click on the link that says 600 links . I just put a T-18 into my bronco with a 205 t case I had to make my own cross member , the T-18 is longer then the NP435 the NP 435 in as long as the 3 speed so your drive shaft should fit find . Rick

So when in 1st gear and 4 hi it would be comparable to other set ups in 4 low. I ask because I was only wanting to do the swap to have 4 low. But could I go to low (overkill) by having the granny gear and 4 low.

I could give you all the figures, but as they say "teach a man to fish", use this calculator:Gear Ratio Calculator
The drop down menu's will have tranny's, transfer cases listed. Once everything calculates it even shows you what each gear ratio is and will give you crawl ratio's, rpm/speed and the ability to compare two setup's side by side.

"...use a calculator..."
My exact suggestion. Yer a good man gwf.
Nice link as well.
Find many of the figures for the different components @ CB or from the manufacturers (also by the net).

This will answ any of yer Qs cuz it takes out other's subjective answers 2 ur Qs ("It seems kinda slo 2 me", "wow, does it pull", etc).
