What is an EBCM and where is it supposed to be? What year, model, engine, etc truck are you talking about?

OK. I understand now. I have zero knowledge of big truck stuff, so I'm afraid I can't help. Hopefully someone else who knows about that kind of stuff can.

There is a Large Truck forum right below this one. I don't know if an F550 would fit into that category or not.

F550's fit into the SD forum. Come on down to the 99-03 7.3 forum.

The speedo runs off of the VSS thats mounted on top of the rear differential. When they go bad, you'll loose the speedo and usually get an ABS light because it can't sense the rear axle speed. As far as affecting the trans, it will mess with the shifting since the truck doesn't know how fast its going.

Thanks for moving the thread. Also thanks for the replies I do understand the vss part of the system. Where i am lost is does the signal go through the brake control module. In other words will not having the brake module on the anti lock brake pump will this disable my speedo

As far as I know the VSS signal does not go to brake control module at all, though I am not certain of that. The VSS is attached to the differential (near the top). It would be worth the shot to replace the VSS sensor (available at NAPA) for under $20. If the VSS fails OR is unplugged you will not have a speedometer, that I know.
