How old is oil really?
If you didn't drive your 460 much because of 9 MPG and didn't put 5000 on in even 3 years - would your oil break down? I have one mechanic that says you could leave your oil in for 3 or 4 years and it would be okay down here where it is always warm here in the south. Modern oils don't break down from sitting around. Fuel injected engines are tight and don't get much condensation in them. Is this true or do you need to change once a year?

Modern oils don't break down as much as they used to, but you need to get them warmed up to get rid of liquids from burning the fuel when cold.
Supposedly an engine that is rarely driven especially on short trips will develop a lot of liquid deposits in the pan. Since the engine doesn't really warm up it never "burns" off these deposits. These can mix with other things and create acid. So they recommend you change oil every 6 months or year, I forget which.
You are supposed to drive the truck at least 20-30 minutes at freeway speed on a regular basis to "burn off" these deposits. If you don't run it at least that much I would guess frequent changes are good insurance.
Good Luck,
