I have a 2000 EXCAB 4x4 PSD and when it gets hot outside, here in Northern California, I have an issue with my Air Con. It only works if I put my foot on the gas. Every other time it blows hot air. However, I have only noticed it doing it when it is hot outside, otherwise I am thinking it works fine. The dealer told me to check the vacumn lines saying that one is leaking, I have checked all of those from the ***** to the fan unit and those are all fine and no leaks. Please help, wife is becomeing unhappy when were are looking at my fields.
Thats odd. Maybe some more information would be helpful. Do u mean not blow cold? Or do u mean not blow out the vents?
If everything works and not cold, I would say pressures maybe or clutch needs adjusting. Mine would decide to quit getting cold after a few minutes of driving. Sometimes turning it off and back on would make it come on, adjusted the clutch and it has done fine in the GA heat/humidity since then. I will attach springerpops directions on how to check and adjust the clutch. He provided a step by step illustrated article on how to do it that is a valuable tool.
Let us know if that sounds right or provide the necessary information to help us get u cold.
Hey thanks for the reply. The air blows hot until I put my foot on the gas. It only seems to do it when it is very hot outside. During the time when it is early morning or cool it blows cool but when it gets into the high 90s or 100s. It only blows cold air when I have my foot on the gas!
X3 on the air gap. Mine did exactly the same thing. My theory is the extra vibration due to the throttle was helping it overcome the gap. Put your ac on max and see if the clutch is pulling in and STAYING pulled in. If not, most likely it IS the air gap. Free and easy fix. Just follow Springerpop's instructions. Worked for me!
