Air conditioner Problems

I have checked the threaded discussions but I did not see any info about what I was told today. I have a 1996 Ford Explorer. My a/c slowly starting blowing hot air. Now it is completely hot. It started out as only getting cold as I accelerated to now it will not blow cold at all. I went to a chain garage (Tires Plus) and they told me I need an evaporator because it is leaking along with a dryer, orifice tube and with the labor will be $630.63. It seems pretty high so I wanted to get some advice before moving forward. PLEASE HELP!!!!

How did they determine you need an evaporator? Did they use a sniffer?

Personally, I would stay away from the chain shops and find an A/C specialty shop.

Thanks I will do that. I am not sure if they used a sniffer or not. That is what they explained to me but they did add 1 lb of freon and it has been blowing very cold air since so if I have that problem again I will go to an a/c specialty shop.
