Alright guys, i found an E99 4x4 with 182k on it. Its a buddy from high school, which will give it to me for 5k. No smoke/puffing at all, out the oil fill neck, no mods...etc, BUT only thing is, is there was a metal banging sound, coming from where the trans meets motor. I was thinking cracked flex/flywheel pplate, but didnt sound like marbles in a can (listened to one on youtube).
So, asking you guys, what you think, i'm thinking probably torque and flywheel/flexplate needs replaced, but you think, it can also be just a trans flush..(bad oil in it). Or possibly, signs of a trans going out.
I dig the fact of it being 4x4 and crewcab. I got a 2wd x-tra cab, but going to the desert, with people loading up, think i can use the extra room.....havnt test drove yet, but knowing him, i ask about it slipping outta gears..etc, and he siad, nah, nuthing like that
Sounds like a typical 99. I've had two e99's and both had a noisy converters. One had the "marbles in a can" sound, the other was more of a grinding sound, like I was holding a very rough piece of sandpaper against the TC as it spun
Drive it...if it is the TC, the noise will go away when it locks in third gear.
Its most noticable at idle.
And if you need a DP tuner for it, Pm me...

I think i'm gonna pull the trigger, been wanting a C.C. 4x4, and at that price, dont think i can go wrong (knock on wood).
Anyway, another issue with it, is that the steering column is horribly broken, the wheel moves EVERYWHERE, so i grabbed, what i think was the intermediate shaft (under the hood), and its tight, no play at all, so i think the problem lies in the column itself. He said it was checked out, which it needed the bearings, a new spring and retainer clip. Am i on the right track? If so, is this/parts i'll need. Any of you replaced such items, and if so, how tough of a job, is it...
