I have a 92 f250 7.3 non-turbo diesel with 109k miles on the thing.. it has the 4.10 rear end in the thing....
Question, I am really wanting to fix up this truck (body is excellent) add a turbo, change from 4.1 to a 3.55...
Troulbe is I want to make sure that I am not wasteing money by adding a turbo to it. don't want the thing to blow up the week after I get it installed.
Currenlty it runs excellent starts good. Looks like a rear engine seal is leaking, but I was informed to check the oil senser on the back of the motor that they are famous for going out....
So providing my oil leak is just a simple little sensor how do I go about determining if I am making a wise investment??
You wont believe the difference after a turbo installation. Its definitely your call. You will have to be happy with the choice that you make. You could check out the oil leak being the sending unit by crawling under the truck and looking up alont the trans and spotting the sending unit or just wiping your hand down the back of the engine to feel the sending unit for dampness. But as far as the turbo goes, i'd do that in a heartbeat.
Every truck I've turbo'd the guy came back from a test drive and said, "It feels like a completely different truck!" And that was with a big smile on their face.
