Stupid hpop question mabe?

Do you need to change oil in the hpop or check it ? Is it the same oil that flows through the engine or is it a separate system?

You do not have to change it as it is the same oil in the engine. When u do change the oil, some remains there so it will remain old. Some very **** retentive people will remove the plug out of the top of the cover and suck it out and refill it with fresh oil when they do their oil changes but it is not necessary as it will circulate through the engine and be replaced with the new oil.

The only time u should check it is when u cannot get it to crank for some reason and it is not smoking when trying to crank. No smoke=no fuel. Oil fires the injectors. U pull the powerstroke plastic cover at the fuel filter housing, remove the plug in the top of the cover and make sure it is near the plug.

The HPOP oil gets "cycled" in a few seconds. And never pull the HPOP plug out while the engine is running. It's under pressure and you'll have a nice little oil spill on your hands...

Here is a document that helps explain how the oil systems work. This really helped me out.
