06 E series 6.0L

I'm kicking around the idea of buying an 06 E350 with the 6.0L. What should I look out for? It has 205,000 miles on it. I'm real familiar with the 7.3 but dont know squat about the 6.0L.

Do not entertain the idea of buying an E 6.0. Stick with gasoline. First of all, the E 6.0 has reduced HP and torque rates. Secondly, they are VERY difficult to work on; the Ford dealers usually want around $200 just to analize problems.... and there will be problems. I am speaking with experience with a E 6.0. The amount of money spent on repairs (thousands) could have bought a lot of gasoline and not having the truck tied up at the dealer on many occassions.

I do all my own mechanic work so labor is not a big concern. The van can be bought for 8G under Kelly blue book. It does however have a check engine light on.

Mantenance history would be good to know. Test drive with a Scangauge to get ECT/EOT spread to learn condition of coolers. Coolant condition/type. Crank it cold to check for FICM/ stiction issues. If it will be idling a lot and short trips maybe a gasser would be better? Lots of miles and towing/hauling? It might work good for you.
