Gas tank help

I went off of Jim's instructions, but modified them a bit.
They roll-over valves aren't made anymore so I found a hose barb that fits into the gromet on top of the tank and accepts a 5/8 hose on the outside, then ran 5/8 hose up to the filler neck where I JB Welded another fitting on near the top of the neck after removing the inner pieces from it.
Performance Injectors for 7.3L Ford Power Strokes
Went from taking at least 10 minutes to fill up to being able to use the big truck pumps and only taking about 5 minutes to fill up 50 gallons of fuel. I love it. And just for added insurance I used some pig-putty epoxy around the top of the tank gromet to gaurd against leaks.

Having to do with the OP, I've both dropped the tank and lifted the box. I found lifting the box easier to work on by far. On the other hand, if the tank is MT and you're replacing it anyway, dropping it is the better choice. I just found it a pain to get the bung back in the top. Filler neck mod is very much worth it.

Ive read about Jims rear tank swap.. I wanna do it, but Im wondering how well you think it would hold up when off roading. Not like swamping it, but mudding.
Maybe add some brush guard around to the front and sides of it?
It just hangs down a little too far for comfort.
This truck of mine...is kinda used for everything so the few of you thinking "why do you need 60 gallons for offroading"
Well... there are other plans in the works...Like an ocean liner horn thats like the entire length of the front tank. haha

Something you may want to consider, if you're replacing the rear tank anyway is replacing it with a 38 gallon tank from a Bronco. Here is a link with the step by step directions if you're interested.

Yes, that link is good to go by. But the Broncos had a 35 gallon tank that doesn't fit well on our frames.
The 38 gallon tank is from a late 80's F350... The part number Jose gave is correct, F26E, from rockauto.com
It's worth it! I can hold 60 gallons of fuel between the two tanks now.

Of course the problem with 50 gallons of diesel is the sticker shock when you fill all of it up!
