My name is harold from new jersey. I have a 2000 ford Ranger. I`ve been thinking about custom rims for a while, and I just this week ordered 20" Mondera b-52 Rims.... on Michelein Pilot Sport Tires ( 275/35/20 ). For those of you that know better than I do , An opinion on this combo for my ranger would be appreciated! I just need to know... Is it Hot?
My opinion: 20" wheels are for tractor-trailer trucks. Why do you want semi-truck sized wheels on your compact pickup? Do you know how much 20" diameter tires are going to cost you (since you'll have to replace them twice as often as the standard size tires).
It's your money. If you want to try and squeeze 20" wheels under your Ranger, go for it. But no, it's not hot. There are many people who do think it's cool. But you'd be surprised at how many more people laugh when they see stuff like that on the road.
Anyway, it's your truck I guess. Do what you want.
Heh, I always laugh when I see pickups with huge wheels and little skinny tires on them. Especially ones that are lowered. Might be ok on perfectly flat roads, but how many roads do you know that are like that? Is it hot? It is not. Better be careful, or you'll bend those rims!
Quick physics lesson.......
Unlike what people might tell you 20" rims are heavier and obviously throw the center of gravity out on the wheel. This will cause an increase in braking distance, shorter pad life, decreased throttle response, and greater force on the wheel bearings. Is it hot? That's a matter of opinion. Does it do anything good? NO... despite what the guy selling you them or the other deep pockets that got lured into buying them tell you.
Is it hot? Not in the least. It's actually quite lame IMHO, and I LMAO everytime I see anything that has virtually no sidewall on it. Why? That's very simple. That tire sidewall functions as both a spring and a shock absorber. The jittery, kidney jolting, bumpy ride you will get with those tires and wheels will drive most any reasonable person nuts and will cause you fatigue in addition to most of the things that saintthomas noted. Just replace the words center of gravity with mass moment of inertia.
Of course, it's your money and if you think it's hot and like your pickup to ride like a skateboard, the go for it. Gotta do what ya gotta do to be happy. You asked for opinions, ya got one.
20 inch rims on a Ranger are cool on show trucks. I use my truck to haul stuff, tow (a small boat) and occasionally take the road less traveled. (non paved roads)
Your truck is your truck afterall and at least you own a truck. Just don't put a trash can size muffler on it! Enjoy your new rims. I own a Ranger XL that has the dog bowl rims on it and I like it.
