Yoke and UJ from a 1951 Ford F1 pickup

Hi All,

I'm hoping you can help me. I'm restoring a 1951 Ford F1 1/2 ton pickup. But changing the engine to a much later (1987) one. The build is going well, but I've run into a problem with having a driveshaft fabricated.

I need to find a UJ and the U bolts to fit the yoke on the axle. All my research tells me it should be a 1310 UJ, but the measurements in the catalogues dont seem to match the measurements I've taken from the yoke.

I think this may be because the yoke itself is quite badly worn. So I want to find a yoke, UJ and Ubolts that all match, and match my axle. This is where I'm having trouble.

I believe the axle is a Dana 44, with a 10 spline pinion shaft.

I cant find anywhere that seems to sell them on the internet, only plenty of later 28 spline yokes. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

BTW, I'm based in the United Kingdom, so truck parts aren't easy to come by here.

Many thanks in advance,
Keith

Hello Keith and welcome to FTE! Yes, the OE joint in the F-1 trucks was a 1310 with all transmissions. In fact, the 1310 was the only joint used in all trucks up through at least F-3. I doubt that you'll have much luck finding a new yoke with the old 10-spline bore, but one of our fellow FTE members is trying to find new homes for some original Dana 44 axles and parts. He might be able to help you out. You can't send PM's yet, but I'll forward him a link to this post. I bet he'll be in touch.

Hi Jordan,

Could you please get in touch with me. Its been over a week since you sent the parts but they haven't arrived.

I've emailed you a couple of times and have tried both your email addresses, but haven't had a reply.

Do you have a tracking number and the name of the shipping company you used?

Many thanks,
Keith

I need to find a 1310 UJ and the U bolts to fit the companion flange on the rear axle.

I believe the axle is a Dana 44, with a 10 spline pinion shaft.
"The UK & the US, two nations separated by a common language." -George Bernard Shaw.

There is no such thing as a slip yoke used on a rear axle, it's referred to as a companion flange. If you ask for a yoke, you may get a slip yoke that slides into the trans' output shaft (front of driveshaft).

I assume you're asking for the original 1951 parts. Is that correct?

8C-4851 .. Companion Flange-10 splines / Obsolete / 11 available NOS from Ford Dealers/obsolete parts vendors.

Applications: 1948/52 F1 / 1953/56 F100.
----------------------------------------
D8UZ-4529-A (replaced C8UZ-4529-A & O1Y-4529) .. U- Bolt / Obsolete / 65 available NOS from Ford Dealers/obsolete parts vendors.

Applications: 1948/52 F1 / 1953/56 F100 / 1957/79 F100/150 / 1969/79 Econoline (and probably later, I didn't look after 1979).
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
C3AZ-4635-J (replaced C3AZ-4635-E, B6TZ-4635-A & 21C-4635) .. 1310 U-Joint / 100's available as it's still available from Ford.

Applications: Myriad 1948 thru today FoMoCo Passenger Cars/Trucks.

I'll list the sources for the obsolete parts...if you still need them.

Well I picked up the parts from the delivery company yesterday, and offered up to the axle tonight. Brilliant, finally got the parts I've been looking for since last year.

Thanks so much Jordan, and FTE, this has been such a sticking point in the project so is great that I can get over this hurdle.

Really glad I could chase up the delivery people with the tracking number. The postal service over here really isn't very good at dealing with incoming international mail from the USA. I had some stuff from John's F100 last year, that was sent to the UK with no problem. But then sat in a UK sorting office for a few weeks before they decided to return it to the sender. The whole time it was there, they never once tried to contact me to tell me a fee was due nor that they even had it. Total nuisance.

@NumberDummy,

Thanks for your help also. Sorry if my terminology is wrong. I'm just going by the terms used in the Dana/Spicer catalogue.

I have the parts I need now, but thanks for looking them up for me.
