I have an 06 F250 Super Duty FX4 w/ Diesel and a long bed. I love my truck...but the ride is horrible! I have had it since new and have always known it rode awful but it never bothered me. I have lengthened my commute and now it drives me insane. It literally splashes coffee out of the damn travel cup sitting in the holder.
I have swapped my shocks to Bilsteins which seemed to help a little but it still capitulates like crazy on the highway.
I bought the truck more for towing power than pay load...that being said, what can I do to correct this ride and make it more comfortable? I do not want to get rid of my truck but am not sure I can keep it if I can't fix the ride. I just changed out coils and shocks on my Jeep and man does it ride nice...looking for a similar fix here but am not sure what that specifically would be. 4X shops aren't much help either other than telling me to put sand bags in the bed.
Someone help me please!!!
Tires can make a huge difference. I have a set of D rated BFG's that I run daily that softened it up quite a bit, But I also have a set of E rated BFG's that ride like concrete but I throw them on if I am going to be towing any significant weight more than a few miles.
Its not that big of a deal to swap the tires and wheels over ( I bought a used set of stock wheels off craigslist) and the ride of the d's is worth it.
You might try playing with the air pressure in you current tires to see if you can soften it up any.
If at the max spec, lower it about 5 psi and see what you gain. I wouldn't personally go any lower than 45 psi though.
On my light duty trucks I usually ran 45 psi front, 42 psi rear when unloaded to help the ride (D range tires). I'm running 48-50 psi front on this truck, 45 psi rear. I'll air 'em up if I tow anything
