Hi all, this has been a strange ordeal, truck would throw a code 14 PIP circuit failure. So far 3 new distributors, new TFI, new coil, and ignition switch. Truck has no spark, and when I test the primary ignition circuit, test light probe in coil neg side terminal, test light cord ground to a good ground on the motor. During cranking the test light just glows steady, instead of pulsing on/off like it should. My question is could this be the computer?
Nobody thinks it could be the computer?...having trouble even finding another reman PCM, the one in there is a F3PF-12A650-MA...is there another compatible one??....AOD tranny
If I remember correctly I usually put the test light onto the positive side of the battery and then to the negative side of the coil to see if it flashes.
And reman distributors have a nasty habit of having bad pips in them. Most are sent in because they die after a short drive but when tested cold they work fine. But when the people who "rebuild" them test the pip it tests good they leave it in.
The test light clip goes to the NEG post of the battery or ground point and the probe to the coil. Both side should have power with the key on and not cranking. The side of the coil (wire) going to the ICM should flash while cranking.
Just a little update on this annoying problem. All the test that I ran point to the distributor. I really find it impossible to believe that the truck needs a 4 forth distributor/stator. Have any of you ever heard of such a failure rate on a new stator assembly???, all were Cardone re manufactures. Today the truck started right up in the cool of early morning, soon to die as the engine approached operating temperature, code 14 PIP circuit failure. I got to running all the electrical test, having all passed except for the PIP pin 1 at distrib. voltage test. Long story short I ordered another complete unit from a different vendor that is a lot closer to my home. If I get her going, I'll try to recover my money from the purchase of number 1 2 3...wish me luck, and thanks to subford whose knowledge is just insane, and imabaka as well.....time now to cry over my beer or 2!

That's a big 10-4......I have heard of this more times than I care to think about
