I have the same engine and same carb. I tried to hook up the kickdown hardware and thought it looked rather cheap. I left it off and also discarded the kickdown rod. Know what, it still kicks down just like before. Go figure, huh? I didn't hook it up in my 1969 Mustang either, but I always have my hand on the floor shifter, so it is not a problem to manually kick it down when needed. Don't know why my truck is working fine without it though, you may want to try it and see.
