Accelerator linkage questions

On my 1979 F150 4x4 equipped with it's original 351M, I have a question concerning the accelerator linkage set-up. I understand that the cable running from the carb, goes to the accelerator pedal assembly. But, what is the other cable assembly that runs along with this, that goes into a white "plastic box"? It has a little pull chain as well. There are several wires and at least 2 vacuum lines running from this box as well. Is this for Cruise control or something? I am about to install a rebuilt 400 into this truck and have a new Edelbrock 4V carb on top of it. It would appear that I can just hook the accelerator cable assembly directly to the carb, and don't know if I have to retain the plastic box set-up for this as well (and don't know what it is for actually). It was held on to a homemade bracket that bolted to the back of the LH head as well, so maybe someone added it at one time. There is no cruise control in this truck by the way, but there is a module bolted below the driver's side dash that I believe was CC at one time - maybe the turn signal installed type, not the horn pad kind that the factory would have offered.

So, what does the box do, and can I remove it without causing problems to the accelerator?

Accelerator linkage questions

Sounds like an aftermarket cruise control. You should be able to remove it with no problems.

It was CC, and I did discard it, no problems.

Thanks for the reply!
