Is everything stock? Factory sized tires?

I'd look at all of the tune-up stuff - plugs, wires, cap/rotor, fuel filter first. 2nd and 3rd should definitely "feel" more powerful. My truck definitely doesn't have much go in 4th gear, but I blame the 3.08s for that.

As far as i know everything is stock, i just got this truck a few weeks ago, and i have not changed anything. When i slowly accelerate the gear feel fine, but i pulled out onto the road and noticed a car was coming fast so i accelerated quickly and the truck just seemed to "fall on its face" so to say

you nailed it....

As stated before, do a GOOD tuneup....

-Plugs (Autolite Coppers)
-Wires (Motorcraft, or NGK, or what have you)
-Distributor cap and Rotary Button (Get the brass termial style...They last longer and run better)
-Air filter
-Fuel Filter
-Oil Change (I use Castrol GTX w/ either a Napa filter or a FL1A Motorcraft)
-Check the U-Joints (Sounds crazy, but mine were toast...Costed me 2 mpg, and about 30% of my power...Replaced them, and all is well now..)

Then, if you REALLY wanna stretch the "Performance" out...Bump your timing up to around 13-14* BTDC...

But, if its a 4x4, or has larger than 31 x 10.50" tires...Thats what you're gonna get..

My strongest passing/pulling gear is 3rd...4th is ok..But no huge power surge....and 5th...Well...5th is simply there...

Give it a full tune up. Don't forget the fuel filters.

Also, about 2 cans of Seafoam will make a visible difference in power....

It literally cleans the gunk out of the engine, fuel lines, etc...

Unfortunately the ol 6 banger wasn't made for acceleration. It's got decent torque to pull a load, but not alot of HP to accelerate. Our '95 F250 at work is a slug, even with 5 spd and gears(not really sure what it has? 3.73 or 4.10). It's kinda snappy "feeling" in lower gears, but not very quick.

If you want to scare yourself, get in an early 80's model 6 banger. OMG, I drove my buddies '81 and that POS wouldn't accelerate on the highway to safe it's life. You were stuck at whatever speed you could manage, no passing allowed! Downshifting got you alot of noise........but no power(or speed increase).

-Start the truck
-Use some pliers to unfasten the clamp on the brake booster hose
-Unhook it on the Booster side
-GENTLY, and I repeat...GENTLY....Pour about a 1/3 of the can in....Gently though...too much and it will kill the engine...

Let the truck run for about 3-5 minutes....And shut it off....Wait about 10 minutes....Then restart...If its been a gunky engine...It'll white smoke like a demon in a vat of holy water....

Rinse, and repeat....

You actually can pour it into the fuel tank, and it'll remove any kind of crap that may be lying in the tank, lines, etc....

Also can use it in the engine oil...Just besure to change the oil within about 30 minutes...Otherwise a nicely sized piece of sludge could cover the oil pump screen...

BTW-Bill, you have FB mail...
