I have a 2003 Ranger Edge 2WD. The clutch on the A/C compressor will not engage and there is no relay click as before. I have been told it may be the head unit switch, which I presume in the cab of the truck. Is there a relay or something that may be preventing this clutch engagement? The system has freon at a good level.
try to put in freeon first if its low clutch wont kick in i got the kit at wal world with gauages and freeon for like 20.00 mine is a 99 recharged last summer with to 12oz,can and cold in there
In order to add R134 you are going to have to jumper the pressure switch to get clutch to engage to admit the freon. Either low charge or the pressure switch itself is bad causing the problem.
Honestly, what you need to do is either break down and buy the tools you need, or take it to a pro, and at least let them diagnose it. Just adding refrigerant can damage your system, especially when it gets low enough to fail to engage the compressor at all.
I simple diagnose and refill should not be expensive. If they find a problem, you can have the choice of either letting them fix it, or you can have them evac the system and fix it yourself (here comes the cost of those tools again), then have then evap and recharge when you are done.
For me personally, If I did not already have the tools, and have the know how, I would let the pros do all my AC work.
