Thanks for all the great ideas and responses. I like to limit the number of combustion engines I have around, each engine adds to the pile of maintenance... would rather have a compact diesel that can mow, plow and dig than a mower, snowblower, and rototiller.

My truck is a 2000 and is really clean on the inside, outside its got a few rust spots starting but overall its really nice. I've looked real quick and found a few beaten up 99-01 F250-350 regular cab V10's with plows in my area for 4-8K. Would be interesting to have a second truck as a plow tool, and a possible parts truck for the main truck. It would cost more, and the wife would not be happy. But I love the idea!

There's a local shop about 15 miles away that does Meyer plows, dumper dog inserts, trailer sales and maintenance. I will have to stop by there and see if they can set me up with a used trade-in or something.

I tried the cheap plow thing...don't bother. These trucks are way too heavy and powerful, they just destroy them. I use a 4wd tractor now with a snow pusher. No question tractors are slower but in WNY we can get 4 feet in a weekend and my tractor will go through anything. It probably depends on the amount of snowfall in your area. You can get a good used plow for these trucks in the 2K range. Good luck

What is the opinion on Curtis brand snow plows? Found a good deal on a local 8'2" V plow for around $3500, not much on ebay or other places compared to BOSS, Meyer or Western.

Boss or Meyer are better choices.

I am sold on western. Had a Meyer plow for two years, worked fine but traded a guy for a western v and will not go back. Curtis is not big in my area. It all depends on what part of the country you are in. Like Indiana is pretty much western and boss, but Ohio is practically all Meyer since they are made in Ohio. I think that all have there goods and bads, just personal preference.

I have 1000' of gravel drive way, the atv is fine for 1-2" of snow, after that its all over and forget about the drifts. The main problem with a heavy plow and gravel is that a whole bunch of it will end up not on the driveway anymore. I try to drive the first couple snow falls onto the driveway to build up a base. Spring sucks when the sun melts my base away. I put a western HTS (half ton system) on a 99 f150 last year and it plows like crazy for what I need. Have also owned lots of old beater plow trucks and they are fun if you like to wrench on them in the cold.

My vote is for the tractor. I have a 9'2" boss vee and have a snowblower attachment for my Kubota high up on the want list even though it will be a rear mount. Sure it will take longer but no snow banks and no worries about where to put the snow if the winter is bad. Also it will get into all those tight areas where the truck can't get to.

Get a Fisher Plow on your pickup and leave the plow shoes on and you won't dig up your gravel

Look for snowdog on Ebay. You can get 8 1/2 ft straight blade delivered to your door for 4k that's cheap and its a real plow. I own one for my 04 and its really nice. I've used Alot of plow brands and this one feels awesome. And its stainless steel so it will last.

snowblowers and gravel dont mix first of all.. like everyone else said, dont waste your money on garbage. get a boss or western. meyers are popular imho because of part availability. 500' in an hour? my 10' does that in 10 seconds tops. your truck was designed for use, including 1000lb plows hanging on the front

Snowblowers have shoes or whatever they are called on each side to avoid throwing gravel.

We(Me and the Mrs.) have discussed this at length and think a plow is the best option, as it is the only one where I can still remove snow and watch my infant son. He loves the car seat and riding in the truck. Just wouldn't work with a snow blower or ATV if I am home alone and need to plow the driveway before she gets home.

We are really thinking hard about the Curtis V-Plow(Used) or a Meyer Lot Pro (New), Both are over our budget, and its hard to spend $4k+ on a $10K truck. Which is why the Meyer seems to be a better option because it will keeps its value around Ohio better.

the shoes on plows or snowblowers work great so long as the ground is froze up!

Adjust them correctly and the work great when it's not frozen, too.
