Just went through first winter and noticed quite bit of rust on frame, almost looks like the paint is coming off in quite a few spots, has anyone else noticed this with their truck? I'm still under warranty but I don't know how they would ever fix it without some major work.
The rust is just surface rust and is only cosmetic. It has no efect on the integrity of the frame at all. There is nothing in the factory warranty that would cover it anyway.
dont worry bout it. the ford frames are not painted but dipped into some type of a waxy finish that protects the frame. crawl under it and grab ahold of the frame in a few different spots and you'll know what im talkin bout. my 02 is rusting on the frame some already also. like trueblue said, it doesnt hurt the structure or integrity of the frame any.

How about the rear diff cover? My 99 F-250's rear differencial cover is rusting bad enough to have large pieces of rust flaking off. Last year, I brushed it clean and sprayed it with Rustoleum, but it's already looking pretty bad again.
Did mine miss the treating process? Or have others noticed this?
Rust on an '02 isn't that cool. My '99s frame is black as ever, front axle is showing some rust now but the frame is in good shape.
The one tip is to be very diligent about spraying off road salt and grime from driving in rain or snow. Or if it is muddy, spray it as soon as you can. I know some that won't wash their truck for a month at a time and the whole underside is rusty.
Any vehicle that sees year round use in seasonal climates will rust eventually.
My rear diff did the same, I think the heat was eating the paint so I bought black paint for a barbeque grill. Cleaned it good with a wire wheel and sprayed it with about 4 good coats, hasn't been a problem since.
When I spend 40G's for a truck I sure would think that something like a frame would at least be painted, and I sure don't want to have to try to maintain the appearance with spray paint. I 've been accused of being obsessed with keping my vehicles clean and seeing surface rust drives me nuts.
I really like the truck,(always been a Ford man), my 93 f150 never had any rust, it makes me wonder how they can charge so much, I wonder what other corners they cut.
Thanks for your responses
