Transmission temperature gage
I have an 06 F150 5.4 x 3.55 and I pull a 6000 lb travel trailer. Most of my excursions have been short (less than 100 miles one way), but this summer I hope to pull some distant trips. I read a lot of forum talk about monitoring the transmission temperature. My truck is box stock and I am looking for advice as to where I can purchase a trans temp gage, what brand or type does everyone recommend, and where does it install onto the transmission? I have a Autometer trans temp gauge on my '01 van. Gauge is on an "A" pillar mount.
The sensor is mounted in the inspection port of the 4R100;
I recently purchased a MSD Superchips Lazer Transmission Temperature Gauge from a E-bay dealer for a quarter of the retail price. It will be going into the '08 F-150. The sensor will be mounted into a port that will be welded into the pan.
It is going into this mount;

I'm guessing you have an Autometer Z-series electrical gauge?
Also, do you know if there is an equivalent inspection port on the 4R75E transmission?
I'm going to open a separate thread on the 4R75E mount, but thanks in advance for any information you can share.

I think that you are asking about the dash mount. It is from Lotec at; www.gaugepods.com // Lotek Inc.
Yes they are Z series. Trans temp and vacuume.

It is a little out of date, though, and doesn't include the 4R75E or 5R110, for example. But if you have transmission code U, that's a start.
There are also some others on the internet.

Just a thought. Why not drop the $375.00 for and edge evolution. Use the level 2 towing program and setup your monitor for - trans. temp, turbine shaft input speed, output shaft speed and engine coolant temp. Do custom programming for shift firmness. All inclusive and best of all - plug and play.

reviving an old topic here. I tow 5000lbs in the virginia mountains at speeds 65mph+. Extra tranny cooler installed because I dont know if this truck's OEM radiator tranny cooler is up to the job. But I wonder what my temps are????
I want to hook up an ATF temp gauge too. Shorebird, if you can remember, what size sensor and thread pitch fits in that inspection port bung? also, when you opened the cover bolt from that bung, did fluid flow out? how does the gauge work??

transmission temperature gauge
I ended up going with a "plug and play" unit called a ScanGauge II and am very happy with it. I was not crazy about tapping into the transmission ports and / or lines which many gauges require, for fear of causing a leak or other issues. With the ScanGauge II you do not even have to crawl under the vehicle. The ScanGauge II plugs into the OBD "computer port" under your dash and utilizes all of the existing sensors that are already in your vehicle. Go online and google ScanGauge II and read up on it. I believe I paid around $160 for it and would recommend it to anyone.

thanks jlsdcen2, i have actually been trying to avoid buying a SCii, but it looks like it may be the easiest way out. A $25 guage would be nice, but only if i dont have to spend half a saturday figuring it out and running to the parts store for adapters and such. I alreaady have 2 other OBDII readers, so I dont really want a third

No adapter was needed.
As for the port it is above the fluid when the engine is off so no leakage occurs.
