One more no A/C thread

Ok, my truck a/c only blows cold when it is not extremely hot out like early in the am and late in the evening, other than that 60-65 deg is all I get. My compressor clutch gap is good and compressor is cycling about every 5 sec. Cleaned coil 2 weeks ago, it wasnt bad at all. Put gauges on today and with outside temp at 90 i got 38 on the low side and 150 on the high side. Installed a heater core bypass not too long ago . Going to check the evap coil tommorrow. Is there anything else I,m missing and whats next? Vac system down and re charge?

Is that 60 degrees at idle or going down the road?

If your compressor is cycling every 5 secs you are low on Freon.
You neecd to add freon to get low side up to 40-45 on low side.
High side will probably get to 250-275

Costa's got it right.

38 and 150 looks to be too little R-134a, especially that 150 high-side.

Gauges are your best friend to get it right, and since you have them, you will.

Just don't add too much, either. You can over-charge pretty easily.

Tried adding freon too, It dosn't seem to want to take any. I let it cycly for a while then open up the low side and let it cycle a few times with valves open and almost no change in pressur on the low side or the high side.

It may be cycling too quick to suck the freon in. Unplug the switch on the low side hose and jump the wires and it should start charging.

When you jump the two wires together it will stop the compressor from cycling and force the compressor to run.

OK jumped the low side switch and got the system to toke about 10 oz of freon over the course of about an hour and a half. I jumped the switch, let the system take some freon, plug the switch back in and let it cycle for a few min then repeat. Absolutly no change in either pressure. Still about 35 on the low side and 145-150 on the high side. And no change in temp coming from the vents still 60 ish (didnt have my temp gauge with me) Also took the fan out and hosed off the condensor coil off it wasnt that dirty.
