Aha, seats werent in mine when i got, that explains it. And will be fitting a bench seat and gas tank at the rear of the frame. Still going to refit the tray tho. John
Guys,
The COE version has the end cut off and angled to clear the link bars for the driver's seat. It's a lot shorter than the conventional cab version.
Chuck
The rounded end would be on the drivers side from what I can see.
my 48 has one with tools and will check tomorrow for round or square, up to now its all pretty original, v8-4 speed-2 speed axle- pto ,tipper, with dump bed fitted, glove box tag and firewall tag match, just bought it in to uk a few weeks back, steve ,uk
I've had the fortune to find quite a few and I think on pretty good authority I can say they used whatever they could get - square one month, round the next. I've seen 48's with either style, 49's with either style, 50's with either style (talking all conventional trucks, no cabovers in the findings)
Does anyone know where you can find the rubber bumpers (2) hat plug into the bottom of the tool tray as you can see in Jeff's photo? I have tried the usual sources without success.
I pulled one of these out of a 49 F1, the bottom is rotted out of it but sides with the rounded ends are in very good shape and has the 2 rubber bumpers. I'll dig up some pics of it and post them shortly if I can find them.
Okay so from what has been discussed here so far it's rounded corner for 1948 and early '49. After that it is the square type. My merc was built on Oct 6 1949 per the paint stamp on the firewall so I'm good to go with the square type? That's the only style I've seen. Never had the chance to look at a round type yet. Gregg for what it's worth the tray pictured is the same as the tray in our 49 M68 .
