The radio and speaker had already been taken out, if you had any use of the holes I could go back to get them for you, lol, and the freight should be fairly cheap too.

Zoiks! That's what we get for telling the guy it's for a '48, not a '56. Surely those 8 extra years have increased it's value 50%.

I can't find the forum codes to post it for you but it seems to be a combination of both years, square on one end and round on the other, maybe worth more for it's rarity.

This can't be right. I don't think Ford would ever produce something like this by combinding two stamping molds.

Can you email me a clearer picture of it and I'll post it here?

Email sent. This tray certainly looks VERY original and i am sure had never been removed before i bought the truck. The truck came from Sacremento Ca and has a whisker over 25,000 miles from new. Was a big six. John

Here are the pictures that John emailed me of the tool tray from his COE.

It does appear to be factory made. Perhaps it's a COE only thing, or maybe a COE one year only (1948)....???.... just like the rounded ends for the 1948 model.

John, is there an obstruction on top of the fuel tank to explain the square and angled end?

Compare it to the 49-52 tool trays that I have.

The plot thickens!

I cant see any logical reason for the square/angled end, and didnt take any particular notice of it until this thread started. Beats me.....LOL John

Guys,
The COE version has the end cut off and angled to clear the link bars for the driver's seat. It's a lot shorter than the conventional cab version.

You know, I was thinking yesterday before I posted the pictures that it might have to do with seats. Thanks for confirming it, Chuck.
